This version of the document, "An Internet Gopher for the University of Victoria", is a DRAFT. (Among other things, I am not including the two appendices since both these articles are obtainable from other sources.) I'm making it available now because it seems that there are many of us with an interest in Gopher who are in the process of writing reports and proposals. I'm hoping we can help each other a bit by sharing some of our efforts.
This is a fairly modest report, intended to convey to librarians what Gopher is and how it might be useful. Is is not a full-blown proposal and doesn't evaluate Gopher in relation to other packages.
I've done a few network drawings that illustrate a top-level server, secondary servers, remote hosts, etc. These are incorporated into the document. If you would like these drawings separately in a form you can manipulate, please let me know. They were made on a Mac with Canvas, which will output in various formats including CGM, DXF, EPSF, Illustrator, MacPaint, PICT, and TIFF.
The document itself was written with More, a Mac outliner. More will produce a plain text file (although the unformatted result is not especially useful) and Grandview, MacWrite, MS Word, Ready!, ThinkTank, WordPerfect, and WriteNow formats. Again, if you'd like access to the text, let me know.
